Low Waste

Zero / Low Waste what does this mean?

Zero / Low waste refers to the reduction of waste, with the target being zero. This can be achieved by encompassing the many R’s: Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Refill, Reuse, Repair, Regift, Recycle, Repeat, and Rot (composting). By embracing these we can all work towards reducing our reliance on raw materials, improving sustainablity and protecting the environment by reducing the number of toxins released into the air, waterways and land improving the well being of our planet.

The Zero Waste movement first gained publicity in the late 1990’s / early 2000’s however the phrase ‘Zero Waste Movement’ emerged in 2009 and has grown in popularity ever since. In 2019 the BBC aired a documentary called ‘Green Planet’, narrated by Sir David Attenborough. Many believe the explosion in awareness, within the U.K, of the negative impact humans are having on the earth through our over consumption of resources and toxic pollution was a direct result of this documentary. It has spurred many of us to look for more sustainable solutions to everyday issues and source products and services that will help to reduce our personal waste.

BombusLeaf and Zero / Low Waste

I am committed to minimizing waste; all of my products are natural (from nature) and are therefore biodegradable by nature. I use primarily organically grown fairly traded ingredients wherever possible, I do not use synthetic colours or fragrances and have minimal packaging. Where packaging is necessary it is made from 100% recycled unbleached paper and I insist that plant based inks are used. All retailer packaging is refillable and compostable at the end of its use. All of the packaging that ingredients arrive in is reused to send orders / deliveries to stores or recycled. I send nothing to landfill.
